Under general supervision, the
Meter Reader Chief participates in and coordinates the reading of water and electric meters to ensure accurate measurement and billing of customer consumption. The incumbent supervises and assists meter reading personnel, monitors daily meter reading activities, ensures adherence to established schedules and procedures, and maintains accurate records of meter readings and related field operations. The Meter Reader Chief also assists in investigating discrepancies in meter readings, resolving customer concerns related to consumption records, and coordinating with other departments to support efficient utility operations.
The position requires the ability to lead field personnel, maintain productivity and quality standards, and ensure compliance with Authority policies, safety regulations, and applicable procedures. The Meter Reader Chief may also be responsible for training staff, preparing reports, monitoring work assignments, and recommending improvements to meter reading processes and customer service delivery.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Receives and assigns electronic meter reading devices to meter readers and instructs meter readers on meter reading procedures.

Accompanies new meter reader to show meter locations, reading procedures, recording of consumption figures and simple calculations.

Reviews meter books and estimates consumption when reader is unable to obtain reading.

Reports broken or faulty meters to office but repair or replacement

Notifies supervisor of meter diversions and other irregularities

Checks readings to see if consistent with prior readings in meter book

Makes special readings as needed

Coordinates the preparation of meter books, the electronic meter reading device for reading routes

Investigates customer complaints and makes report to the supervisor.

Explains meter reading procedure and billing process to customers.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION High school diploma, or equivalent, including courses in the electrical trade and at least three (3) years of experience in meter reading work is required.
