About the Position
Springdale Water & Sewer is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined individual to help maintain our private water and sewer system. This flexible, part-time contract position is ideal for a semi-retired plumber, utility operator, maintenance technician, irrigation specialist, or someone with similar hands-on experience looking for meaningful work.You'll enjoy a flexible schedule, independent work, and the opportunity to help maintain the water and sewer system for a beautiful mountain community.
Schedule
- Independent Contractor
- 10–15 hours per week
- Flexible schedule (daytime hours)
- Occasional on-call availability for water or sewer emergencies
Compensation
- $25–$40 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
- Flexible work schedule

Responsibilities
- Monitor water tanks, pumps, and overall water and sewer system operations.
- Perform regular inspections of water and sewer facilities to ensure equipment is operating properly, including checking drains, overflow screens, and tank operation.
- Monthly meter reading and follow-up testing, including leak and bucket tests.
- Meet with customers to answer questions regarding their water service
- Inspect the system for leaks or maintenance issues
- Replace water meters as needed
- Diagnose and repair minor leaks and mechanical issues
- Locate water and sewer mains for new taps and contractor projects.
- Coordinate water shutoffs and oversee scheduled repair work
- Winterize water meters and monitor the water system during storms
- Maintain accurate daily work updates and participate in weekly planning
***Larger construction and infrastructure projects are completed by outside contractors.
Qualifications
- Experience with plumbing, water systems, irrigation, mechanical maintenance, or a related trade is preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot problems independently
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
