Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical and administrative support in an outpatient behavioral health clinic under
the supervision of licensed providers. This role supports psychiatric and mental health services through patient
intake, documentation, care coordination, and medication-related workflows, while complying with Nevada law,
HIPAA, and clinic policies. The MA does not independently diagnose, prescribe, or provide psychotherapy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Support (Within MA Scope)
- Administer injections
- Perform daily NV PMP checks for providers
- Administer Drug Screenings, breathalyzers and urine pregnancy tests
- Administer TMS treatments
- Support medication workflows under provider direction, including refill requests, pharmacy communications, and prior authorizations
- Assist providers during in-person and telehealth visits as directed
All clinical duties are performed in compliance with Nevada scope-of-practice standards for unlicensed assistive
personnel and clinic protocols.
Care Coordination
- Coordinate laboratory confirmation services
- Communicate with pharmacies, laboratories, insurance companies, and external providers as authorized
- Track and follow up on outstanding orders, results, and patient communications
Documentation & Administrative Support
- Accurately document clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Maintain complete, timely, and compliant patient charts
- Assist with front-office functions and other tasks assigned
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Nevada privacy laws
Patient Interaction & Safety
- Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care to patients experiencing mental health symptoms
- Use clinic-approved de-escalation techniques when interacting with distressed patients
- Follow clinic emergency, crisis, and safety protocols, including escalation to licensed staff when required
- Promptly report safety concerns, medication issues, or compliance risks to supervisors
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Adhere to all clinic policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in required trainings, audits, and quality-improvement activities
- Maintain required certifications and competencies throughout employment
Minimum Qualifications (Nevada-Appropriate)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program
- Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA) preferred but not required unless mandated by clinic policy
- Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within required timeframe
- Eligibility to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in outpatient behavioral health, psychiatry, or mental health settings
- Familiarity with psychiatric medications and behavioral health terminology
- Experience with EHR systems and telehealth platforms
- Bilingual skills preferred
