We are actively seeking an experienced teacher for an opening within the Middle School in grades six through eight with a focus on English. Candidates must have a strong understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school students and a passion for working with this age group during a critical stage of development.
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- an ability to teach engaging and developmentally appropriate English curriculum aligned with the school’s program;
- an ability to guide students in close reading, literary analysis, and thoughtful discussion of texts;
- an ability to teach writing across multiple genres including narrative, analytical, and argumentative writing;
- an ability to support students in developing grammar, vocabulary, and writing mechanics;
- an ability to foster a classroom environment that values student voice, perspective, and respectful discourse;
- an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
- strong verbal and written communication skills;
- an understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to twenty first century learning skills;
- an aptitude for and commitment to meaningful technology integration in the classroom;
- the ability to create engaging learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of reading and writing.
Experience with reading and writing workshop models, project based learning, Responsive Advisory, differentiated instruction, and student centered instructional practices is preferred. A master’s degree and prior middle school teaching experience are also desirable. Familiarity with the science of reading and structured literacy practices is a plus.
