Job Summary
The Boys & Girls Club of Generational Empowerment (BGCGE) is seeking a positive, energetic, and dependable Youth Development Professional to support and inspire youth through engaging educational, recreational, cultural, and enrichment programming. This position plays an important role in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where youth can build confidence, strengthen social and emotional skills, develop positive relationships, and achieve academic success.
Youth Development Professionals work directly with elementary and middle school students in afterschool and summer programming settings, helping facilitate daily activities that promote leadership, healthy lifestyles, cultural identity, creativity, and personal growth. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of youth and serving their community.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead engaging youth activities including academic support, STEM projects, arts and crafts, cultural enrichment, sports and recreation, leadership development, and social emotional learning activities.
- Supervise and actively engage with youth during program hours, transitions, meals, field trips, and enrichment activities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages respect, teamwork, responsibility, and youth participation.
- Support behavior management using positive reinforcement, relationship building, and trauma informed practices.
- Ensure the safety and well being of all participants by following program policies, child safety standards, and emergency procedures.
- Assist students with homework completion, tutoring, and academic skill building activities.
- Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and community partners.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, activity logs, and other required documentation.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of program spaces and supplies.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Experience working with youth in afterschool programs, schools, camps, childcare, sports, recreation, or community based settings is preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship building skills.
- Ability to work positively and effectively with youth from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of youth development, classroom management, or behavior management strategies is preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality at all times.
- Must be able to pass required background checks and comply with all child safety requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, social work, psychology, recreation, or related fields is a plus.
Work Environment
This position may involve working in classrooms, gyms, outdoor recreation areas, community centers, and school based afterschool program settings. The Youth Development Professional should be comfortable leading activities, supervising groups of youth, and participating in active recreational programming.
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
