The Barback supports bartenders and cocktail servers by ensuring the bar and surrounding service areas remain fully stocked, clean, and guest-ready throughout service. This position requires a strong understanding of food and beverage operations, excellent organization, and a commitment to maintaining Mission Ranch’s high standards of hospitality.
The Barback must have a working knowledge of menu offerings, wine list, cocktails, and restaurant history. This role requires the ability to prioritize guest needs and support the bar team efficiently under pressure. The Barback is expected to maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance in accordance with Mission Ranch’s hospitality, uniform and grooming standards.
Key Responsibilities

Stock ice, glassware, bar tools, liquor, beer, wine, and mixers to ensure bartenders are fully supported

Receive, organize, store, and rotate inventory in accordance with FIFO (First-In, First-Out) procedures

Assist bartenders and cocktail servers by running food and beverages as needed

Clear and reset bar tables promptly and maintain cleanliness of bar stations, storage areas, and service corridors

Remove trash and recycle and assist with nightly closing procedures, including breakdown of boxes and materials

Anticipate the needs of bartenders and servers to ensure seamless service

Support guest service efforts by maintaining a friendly, professional presence

Follow all Cal/OSHA, health department, food safety, and responsible beverage service regulations

Ensure bar equipment and supplies are used properly and maintained in safe working conditions

Use proper lifting techniques when handling heavy or breakable items

CA Food Handler and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification required

Strong working knowledge of food and beverage service operations

Must be at least 21 years of age (per California alcohol service regulations)
Education & Experience

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in food and beverage, hospitality, or bar operations
Work Environment

Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift, including moving up and down stairs

Use hands and arms to handle, reach, lift, and organize bar supplies, glassware, and equipment

Bend, stoop, and kneel occasionally to retrieve or restock items

Lift, carry, and transport supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation

Maintain balance and coordination while moving through crowded or confined service areas

Hear and communicate clearly in a busy environment to ensure safe and efficient coordination with team members and guests
Work Environment

A fast-paced, guest-service environment with frequent interruptions and time-sensitive demands

Moderate to high noise levels during peak service hours from guests, music, and restaurant equipment

Indoor and occasional outdoor exposure, including variable temperatures when greeting or seating guests near patios or entryways

Bright or dim lighting conditions depending on time of day and section of the restaurant

Proximity to kitchen and service areas, which may include exposure to food aromas, cleaning chemicals, and hot surfaces

Occasional contact with moving mechanical parts, such as door mechanisms, service carts, or kitchen equipment

Frequent standing and walking on hard surfaces such as tiles or concrete floors.
