Staff Accountant – Manufacturing
Viking Aluminum
Viking Aluminum is looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to become the first accounting position brought in-house at our rapidly growing manufacturing company.
This is not a role where you’ll simply step into an established accounting department and follow existing processes.
You’ll have the opportunity to help build it.
As Viking continues to grow and expand our in-house manufacturing capabilities, we are bringing more of our financial operations inside the company. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the day-to-day accounting function, improve our systems and processes, and help build the financial infrastructure needed to support the next stage of Viking's growth.
For the right person, there is significant opportunity to grow with the company and take on increasing responsibility as the accounting and finance department expands.
What You'll Do
As our first in-house accounting hire, you'll work directly with Viking leadership and our outside financial partners while becoming deeply involved in the financial and operational side of the business.
Responsibilities will include:
- Support and increasingly own the monthly financial close process
- Maintain the general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Manage and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Maintain accurate accounting for raw materials, inventory, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods
- Support manufacturing cost accounting and cost-of-goods-sold accuracy
- Maintain and improve job costing and project profitability reporting
- Reconcile purchasing, receiving, production, inventory, and accounting transactions
- Assist with WIP schedules, progress billing, and construction-related accounting
- Help manage cash-flow reporting and working-capital visibility
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Prepare financial schedules and reporting for leadership, lenders, CPAs, and other partners
- Help establish internal controls, approval processes, and accounting procedures
- Become a key internal accounting resource for Steelhead ERP
- Work directly with operations, purchasing, production, and project management to resolve financial and transactional discrepancies
- Help create reporting around project margins, manufacturing costs, inventory, WIP, and operational performance
What We're Looking For
- 5–10 years of accounting experience
- Manufacturing accounting experience is required
- Strong understanding of inventory, WIP, COGS, and manufacturing accounting
- Experience with job costing or project-based accounting
- Strong general ledger and account reconciliation experience
- Experience with month-end close
- Strong understanding of AP and AR
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Comfortable digging into discrepancies and determining the root cause
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
- Comfortable operating in a growing company where systems and processes are continually being improved
Strongly Preferred
- Steelhead ERP experience is strongly preferred
- ERP implementation, optimization, or cleanup experience
- Experience in aluminum, steel, architectural metals, building products, fabrication, or similar manufacturing
- Construction or project-based manufacturing accounting experience
- QuickBooks Online experience
- Experience with WIP schedules, AIA billing, or percentage-of-completion accounting
Why This Role Is Different
This is Viking Aluminum's first dedicated in-house accounting position, which means the person joining us will have an unusual opportunity to help shape how the accounting function operates from the beginning.
You'll help determine how we manage our accounting workflows, how information moves between manufacturing and finance, how we use our ERP, and how we build financial controls as the company grows.
We aren't looking for someone who only wants to process transactions.
We're looking for someone who sees a problem, investigates it, fixes it, and helps create a better process going forward.
As Viking grows, we expect our accounting and finance team to grow with it. For someone who demonstrates ownership, leadership, and the ability to build scalable processes, there is substantial opportunity to grow into a larger accounting or financial leadership role within the company.
About Viking Aluminum
