Duties
- Provide immediate medical assistance to individuals experiencing injuries or health issues in wildland environments
- Assess patient conditions quickly and accurately to determine appropriate treatment or evacuation needs
- Administer first aid, CPR, and other emergency procedures following established protocols
- Coordinate with local emergency services and rescue teams to facilitate swift patient transport when necessary
- Maintain detailed documentation of medical incidents, treatments provided, and patient outcomes
- Conduct safety assessments of the environment to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks
- Support training initiatives by educating team members on wilderness first aid and safety practices
Skills
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Experience delivering medical care in remote or outdoor settings with limited resources (preferred)
- Knowledge of wilderness survival skills and environmental hazards common in forested areas
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with emergency responders and team members
- Ability to remain calm under pressure while making quick, accurate decisions in high-stress situations
- Physical fitness and stamina to navigate rugged terrains and perform rescue operations as needed
- Commitment to safety protocols and continuous learning about wilderness medicine practices
Qualifications & Requirement’s
- Licensure: Active state or National Registry Paramedic certification in good standing.
- Training: Must have Redcard certification, which includes completing NWCG courses: I-100 (Introduction to ICS), IS-700 (National Incident Management System), S-130 (Firefighter Training), S-190 (Intro to Wildland Fire), L-180 (Human Factors), and or RT-130 (Annual Fireline Safety Refresher).
- Physical Fitness: Must pass the Arduous Pack Test (walking 3 miles in 45 minutes with a 45-pound pack). We administer the test
- Experience: Previous wildland firefighting or wilderness medicine experience is strongly preferred.
- Logistics: Ability to work for 14-21 consecutive days and camp in primitive conditions.
