Job Overview
As a Personal Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals in need of support. Your compassionate care and dedication will empower clients to maintain their independence and dignity while receiving assistance with daily activities. You will work closely with clients in various settings, including home health, assisted living, and group homes, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care.
What you’ll do
- Provide personal care assistance to clients, including help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Monitor and document vital signs and changes in client health status to ensure proper care plans are followed.
- Assist with meal preparation and cooking nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs.
- Support clients with mobility and transfers using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties and ensuring hygiene standards are met.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation, particularly for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia care needs.
- Administer medications as prescribed and assist with patient monitoring to ensure adherence to care plans.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and social workers to provide comprehensive support tailored to each client’s unique needs.
Basic qualifications
- Experience in caregiving or direct support roles within home health or long-term care settings.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques; certification preferred.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure client confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders.
- Background in nursing or social work is advantageous but not required.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as needed for client mobility assistance.
