Position Purpose
The Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Produce Department, ensuring a fresh, full, clean, and visually appealing shopping experience for customers. This position leads department associates, manages inventory, drives sales and profitability, maintains food safety standards, and ensures operational excellence through effective planning, execution, and team development.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
- Manage daily operations of the Produce Department.
- Ensure product quality, freshness, rotation, and proper merchandising at all times.
- Maintain attractive displays that support sales growth and seasonal promotions.
- Monitor inventory levels and order products to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink.
- Ensure department conditions meet company standards for cleanliness, organization, and safety.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and foster a customer-focused culture.
- Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and product information.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Promote a positive shopping experience that encourages customer loyalty.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop department associates.
- Create work schedules that align labor needs with business demands.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and recognition.
- Ensure associates understand and follow company policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.
Sales and Financial Performance
- Achieve department sales, gross margin, labor, and profitability goals.
- Analyze business results and identify opportunities to improve performance.
- Execute merchandising programs and promotional plans effectively.
- Manage labor expenses while maintaining customer service standards.
- Monitor shrink and implement strategies to reduce product loss.
Food Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and company standards.
- Maintain proper product handling, storage, rotation, and sanitation practices.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure product quality and freshness.
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and labeling throughout the department.
- Maintain a safe working environment for associates and customers.
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous grocery retail experience.
- Knowledge of fresh produce handling, merchandising, and inventory management.
- Strong leadership and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred
- Previous Produce Department leadership or management experience.
- Experience managing sales, labor, and shrink performance.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation requirements.
