Position: Bartender
Job Overview:
Provide timely, accurate and friendly service while preparing the highest quality beverages for our guests. Counting, and holding responsibility for large sums of money. Maintaining the utmost confidentiality about company information.
Reports to: Bar Manager
Supervises: Guests/Bar Patrons
Work Environment:
Bar, deck, kitchen, restaurant
- Busy hours, under some high pressure situations to serve customers quickly and efficiently, while ensuring that no alcohol is served to minors or overly intoxicated customers
- Under variable noise levels
- Outdoors/indoors
- Around fumes and/or odor hazards
- Around chemicals
Key Relationships:
Internal: Manager, fellow bartenders, servers, cooks, dishwashers
Maintenance
External: Bar Patrons, Restaurant patrons, venders, law enforcement officers
Qualifications:
Essential:
1. Ability to:
- Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy

- Check patron’s ID for legal drinking age

- Exert physical effort in transporting 25 – 50 pounds

2. Satisfactorily communicate with patrons, management and co-workers to their understanding
Desirable:
- Fluency in English both verbal and non-verbal
- Previous bartender training
- Previous customer relations
- Previous experience in bartending or serving
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended
- Anticipate patrons’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all patrons, however busy and whatever time of day
- Maintain positive patron relations at all times
- Be familiar with all business services so as to respond to a patrons inquiries accurately
- Greet patrons, give them menus, and inform them of any specials or happy hours
- Take drink and food orders from customers
- Retrieve and deliver food to customers if needed
- Cook food
- Pour wine and serve draft and bottled beer as well as other drinks and beverages
- Mix drinks according to bar standards
- Check identification of customers, to ensure that they are of legal drinking age
- Clean bars, tables, and work areas
- Operate cash register, collect payment from patrons, and return change
- Manage bar operation and maintain liquor and beer stocking, at end of every shift, all liquor and beer should be fully restocked for the next shift
- Fill drink orders either directly from patrons at the bar or through waiters and waitresses who place drink orders for restaurant customers
- Know a wide range of drink recipes and be able to mix drinks correctly, quickly, and without waste
- Work well with waiters and waitresses and other kitchen staff to ensure customers receive prompt service
- Stock and prepare garnishes for drinks and maintain an adequate supply of ice, glasses, and other bar supplies.
- Wash glassware and utensils
- Serve food to customers at the bar
- Perform repetitive tasks, lift heavy kegs and cases of beer and cases of liquor
- Sternly, and in an appropriate manner, be able to deny guests that are or becoming intoxicated
- Monitor the level of intoxication of patrons, judging whether or not someone has already had enough or when they are approaching that level
- Listen carefully to patrons’ orders, explain drink and food items, and make menu recommendations
- Be able to converse with patrons on a variety of subjects to create a friendly and welcoming environment at the bar
- Clear and reset tables in bar area
- Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to maintenance department or bar manager
