Job summary:
A Place at the Table (APATT) is a non-profit pay what you can cafe that is located in downtown Raleigh. Our mission is to provide community and good food for all regardless of means. We have a welcoming and inviting space that provides an opportunity for all people to experience conversation and community while enjoying an excellent, fresh, and healthy meal.
The Community Ambassador will report to the Community Manager and be responsible for representing the values of A Place at the Table. Community Ambassador will be dedicated to the goal of listening and addressing the needs and concerns of all in our community. Their main focus will be fostering a safe environment where everyone is welcome, feel a sense of belonging, and bring the community together with good food. The Community Ambassador will be responsible for volunteer clearance.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
- Must work Saturday and Sunday.
- Support a safe and welcoming environment for staff,volunteers and guests through consistent monitoring and regular rounds that reinforce a steady, caring presence.
- Communicate sensitive situations and concerns to the Community Manager in real-time to further assess its severity and implement an appropriate plan of action.
- Monitor and execute appropriate security protocols to respond to any security- related incidents.
- Respond to security incidents and emergencies. Liaise with external emergency services when necessary.
- Develop rapport with diners and volunteers to foster a welcoming environment, cultivate trust, open communication and activate community through upholding Table’’s values.
- Keep and maintain accurate, descriptive notes to assist Manager with documenting incidents to encourage accountability and uphold expectations within the cafe.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings in order to better respond to incidents in a timely manner, and utilize de-escalation when necessary and promote a healthy sense of community.
- Diligently monitor volunteer check-in to ensure volunteer clearance.
Qualifications:
- Passion for Table’s mission
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working with people and emotional/dynamic situations
- Experience working in security.

- Ability to handle emergency situations with calmness and professionalism, utilize de-escalation based crisis management
- Strong commitment to safety
- Able to prioritize, make decisions quickly that are sound, and exercise good judgment
- Able to build trust and maintain strong relationships, but also enforce boundaries and de-escalate various situations as needed
- Able to carry 50 lbs up and down stairs regularly
- Reliable, trustworthy, and open to learning new ways of doing things

Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
