Salary: $120,000 – $135,000
As the Senior Staff Attorney, you will be responsible for assisting the legal affairs team in drafting, negotiating, and managing Association contracts; regularly counseling and assisting clients; identifying ways to help mitigate risk within the Association; managing discovery and data preservation processes related to litigation; assisting in subpoena responses; reviewing and revising policies and procedures; performing legal research; writing memoranda, opinions, and reports; and other department responsibilities as assigned. You will also interact professionally and cooperatively with all departments of the Association, outside counsel, and occasionally Association members.
General Counsel Services
- Counsels internal clients on various matters, including risk and liability.
- Drafts, negotiates, and reviews service, software licensing, confidentiality, and vendor agreements and related documents.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts searches pursuant to legal requests as directed.
- Handles requests for production to comport with legal obligations.
- Drafts or assists in drafting Amicus Curiae briefs as directed.
- Drafts, reviews, and regularly maintains department and other program policies and procedures.
- Creates and implements risk management strategies for Association programs as directed.
Reporting and Documentation
- Drafts internal and external communications, legal memoranda, opinions, and documents as directed.
- Documents and analyzes legal metrics as directed.
- Adheres to and assists in preparing the department budget as directed.
- Graduate of an ABA-approved law school with an active, current Illinois attorney registration in good standing or Illinois House Counsel registration in good standing, or a pending application for either Illinois registration.
- Must have at least 5 years of current attorney experience working with a law firm, corporation, non-profit organization, or government agency.
- Excellent writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills are required.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team to successfully handle multiple responsibilities.
- Must be fluent in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Competence in performing legal and internet research is a must.
- Association legal work, compliance, and/or a health care background are desirable but not required.
- Supervising experience is desirable but not required.
