Duties
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and medication management, following strict aseptic techniques.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to document patient care activities meticulously and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations, specimen collection/processing, and laboratory testing to support accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Manage complex cases involving acute pain management, trauma medicine, infectious disease care, and chronic conditions such as geriatrics or long-term care needs.
- Assist with specialized procedures including suturing, catheterization (urinary and vascular), tube feeding management, ventilator support, and ostomy care.
- Provide patient education on health coaching topics such as medication administration, discharge planning, nutrition, and disease prevention strategies.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in emergency room settings or intensive care units (ICU), including Level I Trauma Center or Level II Trauma Center environments.
- Ensure infection control protocols are followed rigorously to maintain a sterile environment during all procedures.
- Support triage activities in urgent care or outpatient clinics to prioritize patient needs efficiently.
- Participate in case management activities for patients with complex needs such as hospice & palliative medicine or behavioral health cases involving individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care.
Experience
- Proven nursing experience across multiple settings including hospital medicine, emergency medicine, ICU/trauma centers, outpatient clinics, or long-term care facilities.
- Critical care experience preferred, especially within Level I or Level II trauma centers or PICU environments.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation and coding (ICD-9/ICD-10).
- Hands-on experience with advanced procedures such as IV insertion/infusion, phlebotomy, sterile processing techniques, and laboratory specimen handling.
- Familiarity with specialty areas including cardiology (cardiac catheterization), nephrology (dialysis), ophthalmology (including laser treatments), and geriatrics or memory care is highly valued.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP), neonatal ventilator management, or adult acute pain management is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation law related to occupational health cases is a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, physiology principles, CPT coding for procedures/services and ICD coding for diagnoses ensures precise documentation.
- Ability to perform physical examinations using aseptic techniques while maintaining compliance with HIPAA standards for patient privacy and confidentiality.
