Direct Support Professionals
Job Summary:
The Direct Support Professional provides direct services to individuals in their homes while under the care of Smith Family Homes. This person works directly under the supervision of the Director of Operations. Regular contact with the Director is necessary. The Direct Support Professional will provide services including individualized care, companionship, general supervision, personal care assistance, non-medical transportation, and support in identified areas of need outlined in the Individuals Service Plan. To effectively perform in this role, applicants should be willing to operate as a team. Applicants should have the ability to communicate clearly with the individuals served, as well as others employed by Smith Family Homes. Applicants should focus on the person being served and understand that the role of direct support will require respect, flexibility, creativity, and commitment. Direct Support Professionals should treat the individuals under the care of Smith Family Homes, and their families with dignity and respect. Direct Support Professionals are a direct reflection of Smith Family Homes and should do their very best to illustrate the mission and vision as we provide services in the communities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help individuals support, understand, and express their rights and responsibilities.
- ·Accurately complete all documentation required by Smith Family Homes.
- Maintain competency in the profession through continued learning, attending, and being an active participant in staff meetings and training.
- Recognize the importance of modeling valued behaviors to co-workers, individuals receiving services, and the community at large.
- Assist individuals served in basic living skills and daily personal tasks. These include but are not limited to; showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, preparing, and planning meals, and financial budgeting
- Provide transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed, for which a valid Ohio Driver’s License is required.
- Assist in the formulation, management, revision, and follow-through of the Individual’s Service Plan to ensure that treatment is carried out and good health, safety, and security are prioritized.
- Organize and carry out recreational activities for the clients.
- Attend necessary training and continuing education.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information received regarding Smith Family Homes Programs and Clients. Conditions of confidentiality shall follow HIPAA.
Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ohio driver's license in good standing
- Proof of vehicle liability insurance
- BCI Check
- Drivers Abstract
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or be willing to obtain before working with individuals)
- Medication Administration Certification (or be willing to obtain)
- Direct Support Professional Training (or be willing to obtain)
Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
