We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our growing team in the construction and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) industry. Reporting to the CFO, this role will help manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and strengthen internal controls, while playing a key role in supporting the company's financial planning and operational goals.

Assist the Controller in managing all accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger functions

Manage and review month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for accuracy and completeness

Oversee job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and job profitability analysis for construction and HVAC projects

Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management

Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies and procedures

Assist with external audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements

Analyze financial data and prepare variance analysis and management reports

Partner with project managers and operations teams to ensure accurate job cost tracking and reporting

Assist in system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives

Act as a backup to the Controller as needed

May be asked to participate in special projects as assigned

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience

Prior experience in the construction industry and/or HVAC (air conditioning and heating) industry required

Strong understanding of full cycle accounting, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger

Demonstrated experience with job costing and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting

Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling)

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Experience with ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, and/or JobTread software
-
CPA or CPA-track candidate strongly preferred

Experience working in a multi-entity or multi-location company

Experience supporting or leading system implementations or process improvement projects
