About the role
The Geotechnical Driller is responsible for performing a variety of drilling activities in support of geotechnical site investigations. You will operate CTL's drill rigs in the field including borings to depths of up to 250 feet work alongside a driller assistant on every job, and play a central role in delivering quality subsurface data for our engineering and environmental clients. Work is primarily local within the greater Houston area, with occasional regional travel as project needs require.
What you will do
· Operate drilling equipment to perform site investigations, including borings to depths of up to 250 feet
- Perform soil drilling, rock coring, and sampling operations
- Install and abate well installations as required by project scope
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities throughout each job
- Prepare tooling and supplies for daily tasks; load, unload, assemble, and disassemble augers
- Troubleshoot drilling challenges as they arise in the field
- Transport drill rig to and from job sites safely and in accordance with all applicable regulations
- Direct and work alongside a driller assistant, coordinating daily workflow at the job site
- Maintain and clean equipment and perform site cleanup upon completion
- Direct site inquiries from the general public to the appropriate project team member
Requirements
· Minimum 2 years of geotechnical drilling experience
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) — required
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 lbs frequently; over 50 lbs occasionally with assistance
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
- Ability to walk, stand, kneel, squat, and climb as needed throughout the workday
- Ability to work overtime based on project workload
- Willingness to travel regionally on an as-needed basis
Preferred qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with a range of drilling methods and sampling procedures
- Prior experience working in the geotechnical, environmental, or construction materials testing industry
