About Katzinger's
For over 35 years, Katzinger's Delicatessen has been a German Village institution — known for house-cured meats, scratch-made soups and salads, fresh-baked bread, and a menu built from real ingredients and real technique. We're not a heat-and-serve operation: everything happens in our kitchen, from stocks and dressings to salads and desserts. We're looking for an Assistant Kitchen Manager who takes real pride in that kind of cooking and wants to help lead it.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who wants to grow. You'll work side-by-side with our management team across every part of the kitchen's operation — not just running a shift, but helping run the business. We're looking for someone ambitious: a cook or kitchen leader who is ready for more responsibility now and is working toward more down the road.
What You'll Do
- Run daily production alongside the team — you'll be on the line and in the kitchen, not just supervising from the office
- Manage inventory: counts, tracking, and ordering to keep a scratch kitchen stocked and running efficiently
- Build and manage prep lists that keep quality and consistency high day to day
- Help hire, train, and develop kitchen staff
- Create and manage staff schedules
- Plan and execute catering orders alongside daily restaurant production
- Place and manage vendor orders
- Communicate closely and consistently with fellow managers to keep the kitchen aligned with the front of house and with ownership
- Uphold food safety, cleanliness, and quality standards throughout the kitchen
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience working in professional kitchens in a leadership capacity (lead line cook, sous chef, kitchen manager, or similar)
- Genuine passion for cooking quality, scratch-made food — you care about how things taste and how they're made
- Ambition and a desire to grow into greater responsibility — this role is a launching point, not a ceiling
- Strong communication skills, especially working alongside fellow managers and coordinating across teams
- Comfortable juggling production, ordering, scheduling, hiring, and catering all at once
- Reliability is non-negotiable — showing up, on time, every time, is the foundation everything else is built on
- Ability to lead by example and stay calm and organized during high-volume periods
