Job Summary: The Special EducationTeacher will provide direct instruction and support to meet the fulfillment of a students’ Individualized education plans (IEPs). Work involves teaching social skills, self-regulation, self-advocacy and social communication for students with educational, behavioral, hard of hearing, and/or physical impairments. The Special Education Teacher will work under the guidance of the Director of Special Education.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate and complete Special Education due process paperwork, such as IEP’s, PWN, Progress Reports, etc.
- Teach social skills, self-regulation, self-advocacy and social communication.
- Respond to crisis behaviors
- Work with the evaluation team for re-evaluations.
- Develop curriculum materials using engaging and age-appropriate instructional strategies.
- Provide differentiated instruction for students in a variety of subjects.
- Provide support to general education teachers to support students in the classroom.
- Develop appropriate methods for meeting and documenting educational goals and objectives for each child.
- Create a safe and welcoming classroom environment that incorporates hands-on learning activities.
- Assess and analyze student performance through data collection.
- Communicate closely and encourage parental involvement regarding program goals, classroom activities, homework, school functions and student progress.
- Infuse international-mindedness into the curriculum on a continual basis.
- Participate in regular planning and staff development activities.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends, procedures and evaluation processes in special education.
- Participate in professional development for project and place-based learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
A valid Special Education Teaching License (ABS or LD preferred) issued by the Minnesota Department of Education
