The Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Company in Bessemer, AL is seeking Class-A CDL drivers to make deliveries to stores throughout the Southeast. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently, ensuring timely deliveries while adhering to all safety regulations. This is an overnight driving position with loads going out between 8pm and 6am daily and returning to the warehouse after the deliveries are made. Drivers are home most nights and are paid weekly. Drivers are guaranteed a 40-hour minimum each week and typically average between 45 and 55 hours per week.
- A Class-A CDL with at least six months of interstate tractor trailer driving experience
- $24 per hour (may be reduced for candidates with less than six months of CDL Class-A interstate tractor trailer driving experience)
- Some delivery locations require the driver to unload their own trucks.
- Drivers will have to lay-over due to hours of service twice per week. In the event of a lay-over, the company will provide a hotel room and reimbursement of $25 for meals.
- A background check and DOT Drug Screen is required.
- Candidates must live within a 1-hour driving radius of our warehouse.
Responsibilities
- Operate and drive tractor-trailer to transport freight to designated locations
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance with regulations
- Adhere to established delivery routes effectively, ensuring timely arrival at each destination
- Unload freight at stores using manual pallet jack when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records, including e-log for hours of service, and any incidents that occur during transport
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers daily regarding delivery schedules
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations while driving on public roads.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Experience in operating refrigerated trailers is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with route driving and manual transmission vehicles is essential.
- Previous experience as a delivery driver or in freight transportation is advantageous.
- Ability to operate forklifts safely for loading and unloading cargo.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening as part of the hiring process.
