As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Fleet Manager to help keep our delivery operations running safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Position Summary
The Fleet Manager will oversee the safe, compliant, and cost-effective operation of Decks & Docks' delivery and transportation fleet across all branch locations. This role owns vehicle maintenance and lifecycle planning, driver compliance and safety programs, DOT/FMCSA regulatory adherence, and fleet-related budgeting, working closely with branch managers, drivers, and vendors to ensure materials get to job sites and customers on time, every time.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the company's delivery and material-handling fleet across all branch locations.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and manage performance of drivers and support staff company-wide.
- Ensure full compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations, including driver qualification files, hours-of-service logs, and vehicle inspection requirements.
- Manage IRP (International Registration Plan) apportioned vehicle registrations and IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) fuel tax reporting across all operating jurisdictions, including mileage tracking, quarterly filings, and audit readiness.
- Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules; coordinate with repair vendors and manage warranty and service contracts.
- Track and manage fleet-related costs, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, licensing, and registration.
- Monitor vehicle utilization and partner with branch managers to right-size the fleet to business needs.
- Investigate and manage incident and accident reports, coordinating with insurance carriers as needed.
- Maintain accurate fleet records, including titles, registrations, permits, and inspection documentation.
- Evaluate and recommend new vehicle purchases, leases, and fleet technology such as GPS tracking and telematics.
- Partner with Safety and HR teams to deliver ongoing driver training and safety programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in logistics, business, transportation, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in fleet management, transportation, or logistics, ideally within building materials, construction, or distribution.
- Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and compliance requirements.
- Hands-on experience with IRP and IFTA registration, reporting, and audit processes for a multi-state fleet.
- Proven experience managing a multi-location or multi-vehicle fleet.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and vendor-management skills.
- Proficiency with fleet management software and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the marine, construction, or building materials industry.
- CDL license or strong familiarity with commercial driver requirements.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
