Loubier Design is a high-end design/build millwork and furniture shop made up of designers, craftspeople, and makers who care deeply about design, materials, and how things are built.
We are looking for a Design Engineer with a background in furniture design, product design, industrial design, or a related field who wants to apply their technical and fabrication knowledge to the world of architecture and interior design.
This is a fast-paced, hands-on role that connects design directly to production. You will work on several projects at once, developing technical drawings and CNC files for custom millwork, furniture, and architectural interiors. The ideal candidate already has a strong understanding of materials, fabrication, and assembly, and is excited to expand that knowledge within high-end residential and commercial interiors.
One of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing your work built in real time. Our design and production teams work under the same roof, allowing you to collaborate directly with the craftspeople fabricating the work and continually refine how things are designed and made.
Responsibilities
- Develop CNC-ready geometry, cut files, and production information
- Produce detailed technical and shop drawings for fabrication
- Engineer buildable solutions from architectural and interior design intent
- Work directly with carpenters, CNC operators, and project managers to resolve fabrication and detailing challenges
- Manage multiple active projects and changing priorities
- Participate in field surveys, measurements, and site coordination as needed
- Prepare technical drawing packages for client and design-team review
- Incorporate comments and revisions through the approval process
Qualifications
- Must have 2+ years of professional or studio experience
- Background or degree in Furniture Design, Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in SketchUp
- Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of materials, fabrication, construction, and assembly
- Experience producing detailed technical, fabrication, furniture, or product drawings
- Strong spatial reasoning and technical problem-solving skills
- Interest in architecture, interior design, and custom architectural fabrication
- Excellent organization, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to work accurately while managing several projects at once
- Portfolio or examples of complete technical drawing sets
Experience with Rhino, RhinoCAM, CNC fabrication, woodworking, furniture making, model making, digital fabrication, or related production processes is highly valued, but not necessary.
We are most interested in someone who enjoys solving complex fabrication problems, understands how things are made, and is excited by the opportunity to bring that knowledge into high-end architecture and interiors.
