Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Optometric Medical Biller to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Review patient records, including medical documentation and treatment notes, to ensure accurate coding for optometric procedures and services.
- Assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes, ICD-9 and ICD-10 diagnosis codes, and other relevant medical codes for billing purposes.
- Submit clean claims electronically using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to insurance providers promptly.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by investigating discrepancies, appealing denials, and ensuring proper documentation is provided.
- Maintain detailed medical records, billing logs, and collection notes to support audit readiness and compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to verify patient eligibility, insurance coverage, and pre-authorizations prior to billing.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations affecting optometric billing practices.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 diagnosis coding, and DRG classification.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to optometry and eye care procedures.
- Experience with medical billing processes, including claim submission, follow-up, collections, and appeals.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used in optometry clinics for accurate record keeping and billing.
- Knowledge of insurance protocols, patient eligibility verification, and pre-authorizations.
- Ability to interpret medical records accurately and ensure compliance with healthcare standards.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to minimize errors in billing documentation.
