Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to serve students with special needs, fostering their creativity and self-expression through engaging art instruction. Responsibilities
Design and deliver customized art lessons aligned with individual student IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals, ensuring accessibility for students with various disabilities.
Incorporate adaptive teaching strategies and learning technology to facilitate meaningful artistic experiences for students with autism or other special needs.
Collaborate with special education staff, speech therapists, behavioral therapists, and other professionals to integrate art activities into broader therapeutic and educational plans.
Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement techniques and behavioral management strategies to create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
Use assessment tools such as standardized testing and formative evaluations to monitor student progress in art skills and overall development.
Develop innovative curriculum materials that promote literacy education, math integration, early childhood development principles, and recreational therapy concepts within art projects.
Provide mentorship and guidance to students, encouraging self-expression, confidence-building, and social interaction through creative activities.
Qualifications
Proven classroom experience working with children with disabilities in an educational or therapeutic setting.
Strong knowledge of special education practices, including IEP development and implementation.
Experience in curriculum development tailored for diverse learners with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
Familiarity with learning technology tools used in inclusive classrooms to enhance engagement and accessibility.
Skills in speech therapy techniques, behavioral therapy (including applied behavior analysis), music therapy, or occupational therapy are highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and caregivers.
Background in early childhood education or preschool experience is preferred; Montessori or preschool certification is a plus.
Ability to manage classroom behavior proactively while fostering a nurturing environment that supports child welfare and emotional health.
