SACCEC is seeking a full-time Crisis Counselor to work with a team of professionals at our two Child Advocacy Centers in Eastern CT. The Child Crisis Counselor will provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and counseling to child victims of sexual or physical abuse who are experiencing trauma related symptoms, mental health issues, suffer from cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities or autism and in need of a counselor with advanced counseling skills.
The Crisis Counselor will facilitate post-interview meetings between non-offending parents or legal guardians and the investigative team, after the completion of the forensic interview of the child, to ensure that the parent/guardian receives adequate information regarding the status of their child and the next steps in the process.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system and experience working closely with community partners, such as law enforcement, the Department of Children and Families (DCF), medical providers, and/or a State’s Attorney’s Office a plus. Prior training in evidence-based counseling, such as TF-CBT, a plus.
- The Child Crisis Counselor position requires an LCSW Degree; a licensed Master's Degree in Social Work or Psychology may be considered. Experience in evidence-based approaches to the treatment of children and families who have experienced abuse and/or violence and 5 years of counseling experience is required . Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team is essential.
