Position Summary
The Chimney Sweep / Fireplace Technician is responsible for inspecting, cleaning, servicing, and repairing wood-burning and gas fireplaces, chimneys, and venting systems. This role includes customer interaction, jobsite documentation, and safe use of hand/power tools. No prior chimney experience is required, but experience in trades or construction is a plus. Training is provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform chimney sweeping and Level 1–2 NFPA 211 inspections
- Assist with fireplace and chimney repairs (masonry, prefabricated, chase covers, dampers, etc.)
- Diagnose and document system deficiencies
- Take photo documentation and complete digital reports
- Safely use ladders, power tools, and safety equipment on roofs
- Install gas log sets, caps, and spark arrestors (with training)
- Communicate findings and recommendations to homeowners
- Maintain a clean, professional work area
- Load/unload equipment, maintain company vehicle, and track inventory
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to climb roofs safely and work at heights
- Comfortable with ladders, confined spaces, and physical labor
- Strong communication and customer-service mindset
- Detail-oriented with ability to follow procedures
- Ability to lift 75+ lbs
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Background in construction, roofing, HVAC, or related trades
- Mechanical, carpentry, or masonry aptitude
- Prior chimney/fireplace experience
- CSIA / NFI certification (or interest in pursuing)
