Steele Memorial Medical Center is seeking a dynamic, experienced Surgical Services Director to lead our perioperative departments, including the Operating Room, Pre-Op, PACU, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing. This role is ideal for a strong clinical leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, builds high-performing teams, and ensures safe, efficient, patient-centered surgical care. The director is responsible for overseeing the strategic, operational, and financial management of their while collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leaders, and hospital administration to optimize workflows, block scheduling, staffing, and resource utilization while supporting the hospitals mission and patient-care goals.

Directly supervises 10-15 employees in the surgery department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Oversee daily department functions, ensuring efficiency and quality patient care.

Monitor department performance, implement best practices, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Develop and implement department policies and initiatives aligned with hospital goals.

Lead recruitment and training; Supervises and evaluates Surgery staff to ensure quality results and exceptional customer service.
- Ensures staff competency assessments, continuing education, and performance improvement.
- Provides technical consultation and support to Surgical Staff.

Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and hospital policies.

Work with hospital leadership, physicians, and external partners to optimize department services.

Foster a positive work environment, ensuring employees feel valued, while driving initiatives that enhance motivation and retention.
- Lead by example, demonstrating commitment to engagement through actions and communication.

Manage budgets, resource allocation, and cost-effective operations.
- Participate in the development of the Surgical Services strategic and operational plans.
- Collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer to determine fiscal requirements of assigned unit(s) and prepare budgetary recommendations. Monitor the level of resources utilized in service delivery and determine the appropriateness of resource consumption in the service.
Qualifications:

RN licensure required in the state of Idaho; BSN preferred

Minimum 5 years perioperative nursing experience with 3+ years leadership preferred

Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage operations, and collaborate with physicians.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required. PALS preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making.

Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
-
Proficient in EPIC Electronic Health Record (EMR) software.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing clinical documentation and assigning codes.
