Ennis Electric Company, Inc., a 50+ year, family-owned and employee-owned electrical contractor serving the DC Metro region, is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional with strong construction industry knowledge.
This position requires someone who is highly organized, detail-driven, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced construction environment supporting both field and office teams. The ideal candidate understands compliance, payroll, certified payroll, apprenticeship programs, and benefits administration — and can manage them with precision and professionalism.
This is primarily an in-office role with remote flexibility on an as need basis after 90 days.
- Human Resources experience required – preferably 3-5+ years
- Construction Experience required
- Experience with payroll processing and certified payroll reporting
- Strong understanding of benefits administration
- Experience managing or supporting apprenticeship programs preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word required)
- Understanding of HRIS and ATS
- Understanding of I-9/Everify requirements as well as ADA, FMLA, EEO, etc.
- Exceptional attention to detail with extremely low tolerance for data entry errors
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Sound judgment and problem-solving ability
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Knowledge of HIPAA and strict confidentiality standards
- Secretarial, clerical, and administrative proficiency
- Experience in Sage 300 CRE appreciated but not required
- Conduct new hire orientations, including onboarding paperwork and HRIS data entry
- Maintain accurate employee files and employment records
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Assist with disciplinary documentation and performance management support
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee information
- Assist in payroll processing after 90 days
- Support certified payroll reporting requirements for government and prevailing wage projects
- Support year-end reporting and payroll audits
- Conduct employee benefit meetings and open enrollment sessions
- Administer employee benefits and serve as primary contact for employee questions
- Maintain benefit eligibility tracking and reporting
- Ensure compliance with ACA and other regulatory requirements
- Oversee and track apprenticeship enrollment and compliance requirements
- Coordinate documentation and reporting related to apprenticeship programs
- Support apprentice development tracking and records management
- Assist with recordkeeping and internal documentation processes
- Perform administrative and clerical tasks accurately and timely
- Primarily in-office (Manassas, VA)
- Remote flexibility after 90 days based on performance and on an as need basis
- Fast-paced construction environment supporting field and office operations
- Monday thru Friday; 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM with a 1 hour unpaid lunch.
