Patient Types:
Cardio and Thoracic surgeries – CABG, TAVR, Valve replacements, Thoracic cases are robotic (lobectomy, hernia repair), Generator exchanges, Lead extractions, Heart transplants, Fem-pop bypass.
Surgical team will always have (2) RN's per case – Circulator and Med RN – travelers will only circulate.
Patient Ratios: 1:1
Required Certifications:
RN: BLS
ORT: BLS; Graduation from accredited school (required); CST (preferred)
Surgical Assist: BLS, Graduation from accredited school (required); CSFA (preferred)
Anesthesia Tech: BLS
Skills required:
Strong CVOR background is needed across all specialties – ability to work independently with minimal guidance in the following cases: CABG, TAVR, Valve replacements, Thoracic cases are robotic (lobectomy, hernia repair), Generator exchanges, Lead extractions, Heart transplants, Fem-Pop Bypass.
Experience in fast paced environment
Anesthesia Tech: in addition to the above skills, must be able to operate machines for Blood Gasses, TEE's, and Ultrasounds – specific knowledge of certain machines isn't necessary, just know how to operate
Support on the Unit:
Department Supervisor & Manager
Team Lead, without case assignment
Anesthesia available, 24/7
Surgical Assistant Lead – assist with instrumentation, preference cards
House Supervisor, 24/7
Weekend support: Small weekend program staff – shared Supervisor for all OR's (Main/CVOR), other RN's/techs/FA's

Holiday Expectations: Holidays are on-call only, as needed.
AAH adheres to a "fatigue policy” where all staff, including travelers, cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12 hour shifts

Must document pain level, before and after (1 hour for oral) giving pain medications - The pain score must also meet the pain score with nth medication order—i.e. if a patient has a score of 8, the RN cannot give the Tylenol that is ordered for mild 1-3. The RN must call for an order if the patient wants Tylenol for the score of 8.
