American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Staff Float Pool Med/Surg position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience and BLS and NIHSS certifications.

Float pool position covering multiple Med/Surg units within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center

A home unit will be assigned on the first day of orientation

Possible unit assignments include: 6 North Trauma Surgical (general and vascular surgery, 23 beds), 5 South Neuroscience (CVA, TBI, seizure, craniotomy, spinal fusion, and more, 33 beds), 5 North Med/Surg Oncology (MS/Oncology, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, 39 beds), 4 South Clinical Decision Unit (general Med/Surg including COPD, CHF, sepsis, COVID, and end-of-life care, 18 beds), 3 South Orthopedics (joint replacements, fractures, fusions, 20 beds), and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology (urology, ENT, ortho, Med/Surg, 23 beds)

Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit assignment

Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
-
12-hour night shifts starting at 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
-
Every other weekend rotation or 4 weekend days per month required
-
No on-call responsibilities

Floating required to like units (e.g., MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU task, MS-to-ER holds)

EMR: Cerner (preferred)

Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors

13-week contract

Active AL RN license or compact RN license required

Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg experience required
-
Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
-
Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
-
Core clinical skills required vary by unit but include a combination of: wound care, chest tube management, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG tubes, central line care, foley care, ostomy care, PCA pump management, and medication administration

At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience required for the Trauma Surgical unit

Chemo administration certification highly preferred for the Med/Surg Oncology unit

One reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months required for consideration
-
DOB (day and month) required for consideration
-
1-year trauma/surgical RN experience required for consideration for the trauma surgical unit assignment
-
First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience
-
Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have been gone for at least 6 months (from last shift worked) before returning as a traveler
-
Former permanent staff must also wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
-
New travelers to the facility or return travelers absent for 1+ years will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for rehires depends on last date worked

Unit support includes CNAs (1:6 ratio for VS, ADLs, and glucose checks), charge nurses, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry monitoring techs

Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy

Significant RTO blackout dates apply throughout the contract period — candidates should be aware of limited time-off availability around major holidays and designated blackout periods

Scrubs of any color are acceptable

Parking is available in the parking deck on levels 2 through 4 only
