Proactive Medical and Wellness is seeking an experienced, highly detail-oriented Medical Biller with psychiatric and behavioral health billing experience. This is a part-time 1099 position for a small but growing psychiatric practice.
The ideal candidate must understand psychiatric CPT coding, insurance claim submission, denials, payment posting, and accounts receivable follow-up.
Required CPT Billing Experience
Candidates should have experience billing and reviewing commonly used psychiatric and behavioral health CPT codes, including:
- 90791 – Psychiatric diagnostic evaluation
- 90792 – Psychiatric diagnostic evaluation with medical services
- 99213 – Established patient E/M
- 99214 – Established patient E/M
- 99215 – Established patient E/M
- 90832 – Psychotherapy, 30 minutes
- 90834 – Psychotherapy, 45 minutes
- 90837 – Psychotherapy, 60 minutes
- 90833 – Psychotherapy add-on with E/M, 30 minutes
- 90836 – Psychotherapy add-on with E/M, 45 minutes
- 90838 – Psychotherapy add-on with E/M, 60 minutes
- Appropriate use of modifier 25 and telehealth/POS coding when applicable
Candidates should understand that psychotherapy add-on codes such as 90833, 90836, and 90838 are reported with an appropriate E/M service and should be comfortable reviewing documentation and payer requirements before claim submission.
Responsibilities
- Review encounters for billing completeness and coding accuracy
- Submit electronic insurance claims
- Review CPT and ICD-10 coding for psychiatric services
- Ensure appropriate use of E/M and psychotherapy add-on codes
- Identify coding or documentation issues before claims are submitted
- Work rejected and denied claims
- Correct and resubmit claims
- Follow up on unpaid and outstanding claims
- Monitor A/R aging
- Review ERAs and EOBs
- Post and reconcile insurance payments
- Investigate underpayments
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits when needed
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status
- Track timely filing deadlines
- Assist with appeals when appropriate
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activity
- Provide regular reports on outstanding claims, denials, and collections
Qualifications
- Previous medical billing experience required
- Psychiatric/behavioral health billing experience strongly required
- Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
- Experience with E/M and psychotherapy billing
- Experience working denials and A/R
- Familiarity with commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid preferred
- Experience with Availity and insurance payer portals preferred
- Jane EMR/Jane App experience is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements
What We Are Looking For
We need someone who does more than simply submit claims. The right candidate should be able to follow a claim from submission through payment, identify why claims are not being paid, correct billing issues, follow up with payers, and help the practice reduce outstanding accounts receivable.
Experience specifically with psychiatric medication-management and psychotherapy billing is highly preferred.
Schedule: Part-time/flexible
Pay: $22–$26 per hour
