DSP- JOB SUMMARY
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing support and assistance to the individual receiving services. The DSP provides instruction, reinforcement and monitoring of the Individual Program Plan. The DSP works with the Team Leader, client, family, and other support staff to assure that the individual receives the highest quality of service. This is a safety-sensitive position.
DSP-JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting in hygiene, instruction of daily living skills, communication assistance, etc.
- Accompanying the client into the community to engage in recreational, educational and leisure activities and facilitating meaningful interaction.
- Promoting activities that encourage independence, build friendships, enhance self-esteem, and promote community participation.
- Record and submit documentation of daily progress notes – progress notes must address goals and objectives and be written on the day that service is provided.
- Maintain inventory of medication.
- Transport clients safely and on time to various locations, as necessary.
DSP-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Regular and uninterrupted attendance in order to provide quality service.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized instructions.
- Ability to work without close supervision..
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
DSP-JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; one to three months related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver's license and a reliable, insured vehicle
- Pre-employment drug test
