About Steelhead
Steelhead designs, builds, installs, and services industrial equipment for the bottled water industry. Our machines combine mechanical movement, pumps, pneumatics, heaters, sensors, electrical controls, and operator touchscreens.
We are looking for a hands-on technician who enjoys understanding how machines work and solving problems.
Position Summary
Steelhead is hiring an Industrial Equipment Technician to help build, test, troubleshoot, install, and service our equipment.
This role is a good fit for someone with strong mechanical ability who also has basic electrical troubleshooting skills. You do not need previous bottling equipment experience. We can train the right person on our specific machines and process.
The ideal candidate is practical, curious, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working around industrial machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot industrial equipment and identify root causes of problems.
- Assist with machine assembly, setup, testing, and final checkout.
- Make mechanical adjustments to conveyors, guides, cylinders, valves, pumps, and related components.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical items such as sensors, switches, solenoids, motors, and control panels.
- Use an HMI/operator screen to review alarms, settings, and machine status.
- Support customer equipment installations and service calls.
- Help test new machines before shipment.
- Communicate clearly with coworkers and customers.
- Document issues found, repairs made, and recommended next steps.
- Learn Steelhead’s equipment, process, and troubleshooting methods.
Required Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
- Experience working on industrial equipment, machinery, vehicles, HVAC systems, pumps, production equipment, or similar mechanical systems.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to use common hand tools and a multimeter.
- Ability to understand how a machine sequence works.
- Comfortable working with pneumatic cylinders, valves, regulators, pumps, motors, or similar components.
- Willingness to learn PLC-controlled equipment and HMI operator screens.
- Good communication skills.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and willing to solve problems.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel for installations and service work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial maintenance, field service, manufacturing maintenance, automation, HVAC, automotive, diesel, military maintenance, or similar hands-on technical work.
- Experience with conveyors, pumps, pneumatics, sensors, motors, VFDs, or control panels.
- Ability to read basic electrical or mechanical drawings.
- PLC or HMI experience is a plus, but not required.
- Welding, fabrication, or equipment assembly experience is a plus.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can look at a machine problem and think through what is actually happening.
For example:
- Is the issue mechanical?
- Is it electrical?
- Is it air pressure?
- Is it a sensor?
- Is it timing?
- Is it a pump or water-flow issue?
- Is it an operator setting?
The right person does not need to know our machines on day one. They do need to be hands-on, mechanically sharp, willing to learn, and able to troubleshoot logically.
Compensation
Pay range is $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.
