Senior Construction Estimator – Commercial & Residential Construction
AZ Construction & Renovation is hiring a highly experienced Senior Construction Estimator with strong knowledge of commercial and residential construction.
This position is for someone who understands how construction is actually built in the field , not just someone who enters numbers into estimating software. The right candidate must be able to review plans, perform takeoffs, understand construction methods, identify missing scope, price labor and materials, coordinate subcontractor pricing, and prepare accurate estimates that can be confidently handed off to production.
We are looking for an estimator who understands multiple trades, construction sequencing, site conditions, building systems, and the difference between estimating a remodel, a tenant improvement build-out and a ground-up construction project.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for commercial, residential, renovation
- Review plans, specifications, engineering details, inspection reports, photos, field notes, scopes of work, and client requests.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for demolition, framing, drywall, concrete, masonry, stucco, roofing, flooring, paint, cabinets, doors, windows, finishes, exterior improvements, and related trades.
- Estimate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, supervision, general conditions, overhead, profit, and project-specific costs.
- Understand construction methods, building systems, trade sequencing, jobsite conditions, and production rates.
- Build estimates for tenant improvements, commercial build-outs, office/retail/warehouse improvements, residential additions, remodels, garage conversions, structural repairs, and ground-up construction.
- Review architectural plans, structural plans, civil/site plans, MEP drawings, and engineering reports when applicable.
- Identify missing scope, unclear details, plan conflicts, site issues, exclusions, assumptions, and potential change order items.
- Request, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Prepare client-facing proposals, internal budgets, bid breakdowns, and production handoff packages.
- Work with project managers, ownership, subcontractors, vendors, and field staff.
- Help protect the company from underbidding, missed scope, wrong assumptions, and incomplete takeoffs.
- Assist with value engineering and alternative scope options when needed.
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of construction estimating experience.
- Strong knowledge construction trades.
- Experience estimating renovations, remodels, repairs, tenant improvements, and build-outs.
- Experience with ground-up new construction estimating.
- Ability to read construction plans, specifications, engineering details, and scopes of work.
- Strong understanding of multiple trades, not just one specialty.
- Ability to estimate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project conditions.
- Ability to perform accurate takeoffs and build detailed cost estimates.
- Strong computer, spreadsheet, communication, and organization skills.
- Must be comfortable performing jobsite visits in Tucson and surrounding areas when needed. Preferred Experience
- Experience estimating structural repairs, roofing, stucco, framing, concrete, MEP-related repairs, and full renovations.
- Prior field experience as a superintendent, project manager, foreman, tradesman, or construction manager is a strong plus.
- Experience preparing estimates from limited information, including photos, inspection reports, engineering notes, and incomplete plans.
- Experience with commercial tenant improvements, medical/office/retail build-outs, residential additions, garage conversions, and ground-up construction.
- Ability to develop scopes that are detailed enough for production crews and subcontractors to execute.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has strong estimating experience and real construction knowledge. This person understands construction methods, sequencing, building systems, materials, labor production, subcontractor coordination, and field conditions.
We are looking for someone who can look at a set of plans, photos, or a jobsite and understand what is missing, what needs to be priced, what risks exist, and what it will actually take to build the project correctly.

Pay: $84,700.42 - $102,500.00 per year
