Development & Communications Coordinator (Half-Time, 20 hours/week)
The Windham Foundation | Grafton, Vermont
About the Windham Foundation
The Windham Foundation is a Vermont-based private operating foundation dedicated to rural community vitality, historic preservation, and place-based philanthropy in one of New England's most distinctive communities. The Foundation owns and operates landmark assets including the 225-year old Grafton Inn and 500+ acre Grafton Trails & Outdoor Center. It also runs a grants program and a conferences program. The Foundation works alongside partners across Vermont to strengthen the fabric of rural life in this state.
The Opportunity
The Foundation is launching its first formal fundraising program as part of a new Strategic Plan. We are looking for a Development & Communications Coordinator to help build it.
This is a role for someone who takes satisfaction in keeping things organized, getting the details right, and making it easier for others to do their best work. You’ll be supporting leadership-led fundraising by making sure donor relationships are well-tended, communications go out on time, systems stay current, and nothing falls through the cracks. We’ll also look to you to create the materials (print and electronic) that bring our fundraising to life.
The position reports to the Executive Director and maintains a dotted-line relationship with the General Manager of the Grafton Inn.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate fundraising activities, calendars, and appeals under the direction of the Executive Director
- Manage gift processing, acknowledgments, and donor database maintenance
- Prepare donor stewardship communications, updates, and impact reports
- Draft donor and stakeholder communications such as newsletters, appeals, social media, web content
- Support Board and leadership with briefing materials, donor profiles, and event logistics
What We’re Looking For
- Three or more years of experience in development, communications, or a closely related field, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
- Experience creating development-related communications products.
- Strong writing skills and an eye for clear, mission-aligned messaging.
- Comfort with donor database systems and a willingness to learn new tools
- Excellent organizational and follow-through skills.
- A collaborative, service-oriented approach.
This role is primarily focused on coordination, systems, and communications rather than direct donor solicitation. Experience in a small-shop development environment is a real plus.
Compensation and Location
This is a half-time position (20 hours/week) based in Grafton, Vermont, one of the state's most beautiful and storied small towns. The ability to work regularly on-site is expected; hybrid arrangements may be possible. The pay range is $27,500 – $30,000, based on experience.

Pay: $27,500.00 - $30,000.00 per year
