Job Summary
Under general supervision this PER DIEM Ophthalmic Technician role performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians, nurses, and division personnel. Employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
Essential Functions and Job Duties
Patient Care: Places patients in examination rooms and facilitates efficient patient flow during clinic. Assist in preparing patients for examinations, which includes placing patients in examination rooms, completing and documenting thorough medical histories and performing preliminary eye testing including but not limited to stereovision, pupils, eye pressure, confrontation visual fields, and vision testing as appropriate for age. 5%
Testing and Procedures: They conduct basic eye tests as above, as well as lensometry (reading glasses), and autorefraction. They administer eye medications. They assist ophthalmologists during in-office procedures, which may involve preparing instruments and ensuring the exam room is ready for patient care.
Equipment Handling: Use various ophthalmic instruments such as autorefractors and lensometers, to help assess patients' eye health and vision. Performs ophthalmology-specific diagnostic tests as directed by the physician, including but not limited to a scan, b scan, visual field, fundus photography, and OCT. Help maintain equipment and ensure they are working properly.
Patient Education: They educate patients on proper eye care for certain common conditions designated by the physicians, as well as how to care for contact lenses and eyeglasses. Provide instructions for post-operative care when necessary. 50%
Make sure all machines are in working order, and all special tests are reviewed by doctor and put into the chart. 20%
Completes room preparation including calibration of equipment, sterilization of instruments, and sterile procedure, including all supplies, forms, handouts and drops are stocked and available. 10%
Oversees the ordering of all equipment and supplies for the clinical office with direction from the providers. 10%
Takes accountability for own clinical and professional growth based on evaluation and feedback. In collaboration with leadership, sets realistic and measurable goals for performance plan.
Maintains competence and professional development. Maintains certification as required. 5%

Qualifications
3+ years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician or COA or COT equivalent required; previous Pediatric Ophthalmology experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of eye examination techniques.
Education/Licensure/Certification
Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant preferred, or 4-6 years’ experience.
Pay: $40.00 per hour
