Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Literacy Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in literacy education, special education, or a related field, a passion for helping individuals improve their reading and writing skills, and follow the Science of Reading guidelines for explicit, multisensory instruction and intervention. This role involves working one-on-one with clients to develop personalized strategies for enhancing literacy, comprehension, and overall reading abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct informal screenings and criterion-referenced assessments to identify students’ literacy levels, pinpoint areas of need, and monitor student progress over time.
- Develop and implement customized literacy plans tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.
- Utilize evidence-based assessment tools to identify reading difficulties and formulate individualized learning plans that can include a variety of instructional methods, such as phonics, fluency practice, comprehension strategies, and vocabulary development.
- Analyze literacy assessment data to inform instructional practices, design student-centered, multisensory interventions, and support student growth and progress.
- Provide one-on-one sessions utilizing evidence-based techniques to improve reading and writing skills.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting interventions as needed to ensure optimal learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and any other professionals supporting the child to help support growth and progress.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting literacy at home.
- Stay informed about the latest research in literacy education and incorporate innovative teaching techniques and resources into their practice.
- Maintain detailed records of client sessions, progress, and outcomes.
- Attend department and staff meetings as required
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Literacy Education, Educational Psychology, Special Education, or a related field OR a Bachelor’s Degree with teaching credentials or other certifications that would make one qualified for this position.
- Proven experience in literacy instruction, coaching, teaching or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of literacy development and strategies for improvement.
- Experience working with children and adolescents with dyslexia, learning disabilities, and other literacy-related challenges.
- Proficiency in differentiating instruction for various types of learners.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport and foster a positive, supportive relationship with clients.
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple clients effectively.
- Punctuality and reliability are a must.
- Commitment to working at least 15 client-facing hours per week.
- Ability to work afternoons and evenings, and at least one weekend day per week.
- Flexibility to work in our Campbell and/or Morgan Hill office.
