Process Safety Engineer: Neville Chemical Company is a major manufacturer of Hydrocarbon Resins with a 100-year history in the industry. Resins are thermoplastic low molecular weight polymers that are used extensively in the formulation of Adhesive and Sealants, Paints and Coatings, Inks, Tire and Industrial Rubber products. Hydrocarbon resins are key components that enhance the process ability and end-use performance of these products.
Neville Chemical Company has a current opening for a Process Safety Engineer based at our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania plant and headquarters. This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering. The primary responsibilities of this role include:
· Oversee Management of Change Database. This includes processing of all Change Management Records, ensuring that all necessary OSHA documentation (Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, P&ID updates, Equipment specifications, design calculations etc.) is properly attached to each record.
· Evaluate risk ranking matrix for a given process change and dictate what MOC requirements are needed based on severity and likelihood.
· Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHA’s) for each Process Safety covered unit alongside local process expert and Safety Department. Each PHA is conducted on a 5-year cycle.
· Participate in plant incident review meetings. Analyze process safety incidents and assign action items as necessary.
· Manage action item database. Conduct action item review meetings to ensure completion compliance are meeting KPIs.
· Research and/or investigate ideas to improve processes and recommended action necessary to modify existing operations in order to reduce process risk and liability.
· Develop and/or update Standard Operating Procedures for identified units within the plant to ensure they are consistent with regulatory standards and Company policies.
The qualified candidate should possess the following minimum requirements:
· Two to four years of relevant work experience required. Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering required. Previous process safety experience is preferred.
· Previous experience with risk-based assessments is strongly preferred. Training will be provided on how to conduct PHAs.
· Demonstrate problem-solving and interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communications.
· Ancillary knowledge of process control systems is preferred.
· Have basic understanding of pumps, mixers, instruments, etc.
· Must be eligible for Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®) clearance.
