Surgical Assistant Pool

Full Time | First Shift
The Certified Surgical Assistant provides direct support to the supervising surgeon(s) in the management and care of surgical patients. Working under the direct supervision of the surgeon(s), the Surgical First Assist collaborates closely with the surgical team to provide safe, high-quality, efficient, continuous, and cost-effective care in both the operating room and medical office setting.
The following is a summary of the major functions of this position. Additional duties may be assigned, and specific responsibilities may change based on the needs of the department and practice.
Assist Surgeon(s) with Intraoperative Care
Serve as first and second assist to the surgeon(s) in the operating room while adhering to all surgical standards, including aseptic techniques and established protocols.
Assist with preparing patients for surgical procedures.
Perform incision closure as delegated by the attending surgeon.
Participate in on-call coverage for after-hours and weekend surgical cases.
Assist Surgeon(s) in the Medical Office
Assist the surgeon in the office setting, including rooming patients and obtaining and documenting medical histories and physical examinations.
Perform post-operative wound checks and suture removal.
Complete other office duties as requested or assigned by the surgeon(s) and/or practice manager.
Must be a licensed Surgical First Assist in good standing.
Must hold and maintain certification through one of the following:
3–5 years of experience as a Surgical First Assist in general surgery cases is strongly preferred.
