Job Summary:
As the Project Estimator, you will ultimately be responsible for preparing accurate project cost estimates, supporting bid development, and assisting with pre-construction planning for telecom OSP fiber and copper infrastructure projects. You will coordinate with engineering, project management, and field teams to develop estimates and ensure project feasibility. As the Project Estimator, your customers are internal stakeholders and telecom infrastructure clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company’s success through cost accuracy, risk analysis, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and site conditions to develop comprehensive cost estimates
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and field teams to gather data and validate project requirements
- Conduct job site drive-outs to assess field conditions and determine the best construction approach
- Prepare bid packages and support proposals for clients and internal stakeholders
- Review vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness
- Assist with change order pricing, project scheduling, and resource planning
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Driver’s License preferred
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in telecom OSP estimating or related construction estimating
- 5+ years of field experience in telecom OSP construction (FTTH, Long Haul, or similar)
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of OSP construction methods including trenching, boring, plowing, microtrenching, aerial placement, and splicing
- Proficiency with estimating software such as B2W
- Familiarity with GIS tools, CAD drawings, and telecom design standards
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and network architecture details
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple estimates while maintaining quality and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with fiber optic network design and deployment
- Knowledge of permitting processes and utility coordination
- Understanding of production run rates and value engineering methodologies
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed
- Ability to work in office and field environments for extended periods
- Ability to review technical documents and perform detailed quantity takeoffs
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
