The Muhlenberg Police Department is seeking applicants to join our dynamic and dedicated police force. The Township is intending to hire Individuals who have the drive to excel and the desire to have a positive impact on the community they serve. We have several positions that need to be filled.
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age by the time of appointment
o Be a U.S. citizen, be a high school graduate or graduate equivalency diploma (GED)
o Have a Pennsylvania driver’s license before appointment.
o Meet the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission standards for physical and mental fitness.
o Must not have a disqualifying criminal record.
o Pass all requirements in Act-57
The Township follows the Civil Service process. This includes a written and oral examination, a physical agility/ability test, medical and psychological exams, drug screen, and a thorough background investigation, to include a Polygraph.
The Township offers an excellent salary and benefits package. Applicants who do possess ACT 120 certification will begin at the CADET RATE of $55,266.14 while they are in the police academy. Upon graduation, they receive $88,421.06. Applicants who already have Act 120 training and some police experience may start at between $88,421.06 up to $99,476.67, depending on qualifications and experience. The highest pay-rate for patrol officers in 2026 = $110,532.28.

Friday, August 14th, 2026 4PM. There is NO CHARGE for taking the physical ability and written tests. The first part of the process will be a Nelson-Denny written test. Testing will begin Saturday August 15th, 2026 promptly at 0800 . For both tests, applicants must produce proof of identification (Government issued photo ID required) (i.e. picture driver’s license) at the testing sites, for admittance to the testing facilities. Applicants must also submit a medical release clearance form prior to being able to participate in the physical agility testing. ALL NECESSARY FORMS CAN BE PICKED UP IN PERSON FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; or FOUND ON The Police Department’s web page.
Candidates will be notified of their test scores after the testing. When a candidate passes both tests, the applicant will be provided with a Full application. Applications accompanied by a $40.00 fee and can be dropped off in person at the Police Department’s office during normal business or sent via certified mail – return receipt requested. Candidates who pass both the written test and the physical agility testing must submit their full applications by August 21st, 2026 by 4PM to continue in the hiring process.
Automatic Disqualifiers Include:
· Any Felony Conviction
· Any history of use, manufacturer, distribution or transportation of any controlled dangerous substance, narcotic drug or marijuana
· Having ever used Heroin, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, LSD or PCP
· Having engaged in the regular use of marijuana in the past three years
· Lying or omitting truths during the background process
· Committed acts of Domestic Violence
· Have an Active Protection From Abuse Order
