Job Title: Men Shelter Security Officer
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Man Security Officer to provide a safe, secure, and respectful environment for the women and children residing at our Rescue Mission shelter. The ideal candidate will be vigilant, compassionate, and committed to protecting the physical and emotional safety of guests who may be survivors of trauma, abuse, or homelessness. This position plays a key role in upholding the mission and values of our faith-based organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor shelter premises to maintain a safe and peaceful environment
- Serve as the first responder to emergencies or disturbances on site
- Greet and screen residents, visitors, and volunteers in a respectful and professional manner
- Conduct regular patrols of the facility, including hallways, sleeping areas, restrooms, and exterior spaces
- Monitor security cameras and access points
- Document incidents, safety concerns, or rule violations in a timely and accurate manner
- Enforce shelter rules and curfews with compassion and consistency
- Work closely with shelter staff to de-escalate conflicts and support residents
- Communicate effectively with emergency responders when necessary (police, fire, EMTs)
- Support front desk operations, including check-ins and access control
- Maintain a strong, visible security presence throughout shift
- Uphold confidentiality and treat all individuals with dignity and respect
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Prior experience in security, public safety, or working with vulnerable populations preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Background check and drug screening required
- Physical ability to stand/walk for long periods and respond quickly to incidents
Work Environment:
This position involves working in a shelter setting with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and/or substance use issues. Candidates must be comfortable working in emotionally challenging environments and committed to upholding the mission and values of the shelter.
