Definition
The following duties are normal for this position. Job Summary
This position will report to the Lead Fleet Technician. This position performs preventative maintenance and repair of heavy-duty equipment, trucks, and light vehicles of the MSIDD/ED3 District Fleet.
Essential Functions
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify safety concerns and maintenance needs.
- Complete maintenance services according to manufacturer recommendations and District standards.
- Document all inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities accurately in the Fleet Management System.
Diagnostics and Repair
- Diagnose and repair gasoline, diesel, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, steering, suspension, brake, and drivetrain systems.
- Troubleshoot complex equipment failures using computerized diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble major vehicle and equipment components.
- Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, and minor machining operations as needed.
- Repair and maintain construction equipment, utility equipment, medium-duty trucks, heavy-duty trucks, trailers, generators, pumps, and support equipment.
- Repair HVAC and air-conditioning systems when certified and authorized.
Equipment Operations
- Operate heavy trucks, construction equipment, forklifts, service vehicles, cranes, and other fleet assets as required.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Perform road testing and operational testing to verify repairs.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all District safety policies and procedures.
- Utilize required personal protective equipment.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions.
- Report accidents, injuries, near misses, and hazards promptly.
- Follow OSHA, FMCSA, EPA, and District requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Customer Service
- Communicate professionally with operators, supervisors, vendors, and coworkers.
- Provide accurate repair status updates.
- Minimize equipment downtime through proactive communication and planning.
- Support District departments by ensuring fleet readiness and reliability.
Inventory and Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accountability for assigned tools and equipment.
- Assist with parts inventory and stocking levels.
- Complete work orders and repair documentation accurately and on time.
- Track labor, parts usage, and equipment history in the Fleet Management System.
- Assist with equipment inspections and audits as required.
Assist with the following administrative, fleet, and operational support functions:
- Pick up and deliver parts, materials, and designated vehicles to and from vendors, suppliers, and service providers.
- Receive and process incoming shipments, verify deliveries, route items to the appropriate department, sign for deliveries, and forward packing slips to Accounting and Purchasing.
- Receive, process, and enter work requests into applicable department systems and software programs.
- Enter repair and maintenance data into the Fleet Management System.
- Accurately document repairs performed and ensure labor, parts, and materials are charged to the correct repair orders.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules, service appointments, and customer notifications.
- Provide timely notifications upon completion of maintenance and repair services.
- Track and monitor the status of repairs, ensuring stakeholders receive accurate updates.
- Obtain quotes and pricing information from vendors as requested.
- Prepare and enter requisitions and distribute purchase orders to awarded vendors.
- Maintain organized and accurate electronic and physical records, files, and documentation.
- Coordinate required inspections and maintain records of completed inspections, certifications, and upcoming due dates.
- Arrange rental vehicles and equipment as requested to support operational needs.
- Coordinate the pickup and delivery of vehicles and equipment serviced by outside vendors.
- Assist with inventory management, including tracking parts usage, monitoring stock levels, and identifying replenishment needs.
- Support departmental operations by providing administrative assistance and maintaining accurate fleet-related records.
Essential Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must hold and maintain valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Must hold and maintain a Class A CDL. or must be able to obtain a Class A CDL license with necessary endorsements within 180-days of date of hire.
- Must hold and maintain Section 609 Technician Certification to practice Refrigerant Recycling, Recovery and Reclamation as required by 40 CFR Part 82.40, or be able to obtain certification within the necessary six months of date of hire.
- Must be able to operate vehicles with either manual or automatic transmission.
- Must pass employment drug screening test and background check.

- Skill in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, brake, fuel, and electrical defects in a wide variety of automotive and heavy-duty truck equipment.
- Skill in reading technical manuals and specifications.
- Skill in the safe use of tools, materials, and equipment used in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Skill in maintaining accurate service records.
- Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
Special Requirement
- The ability to work overtime or various shifts assigned.
- The ability to multitask.

Physical Requirements
- Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb ladders, stairs, ramps, canals, and ditches; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of equipment utilized in job duties.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years qualified experience in professional maintenance and repair of gasoline / diesel operated equipment and hydraulic/electrical systems.
WORK ENVIROMENT
- Work is performed in a shop environment with some travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain.

Pay: From $27.85 per hour
Work Location: In person
