PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Math Specialist provides specialized, evidence-based mathematics intervention for students diagnosed with a mathematics disorder or identified as having significant deficits in mathematical understanding and performance. The Math Specialist works collaboratively with administrators and classroom teachers to identify skill gaps, remediate foundational mathematical concepts, and help students access and succeed in grade-level mathematics.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university
Valid Teacher Certificate, (Mathematics subject area concentration or Special Education Certification/License)
Minimum three years teaching experience
Knowledge of learning disabilities affecting mathematics achievement and training in evidence-based mathematics intervention preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direct math intervention to students with diagnosed math disorders and students identified as needing intensive math intervention through a combination of classroom support, individualized instruction, and targeted small-group intervention.

Uses diagnostic assessments, progress-monitoring data, and classroom performance information to identify skill deficits, plan instruction, and measure student growth.

Delivers evidence-based, multisensory math instruction designed to remediate foundational skill gaps while supporting students' success with grade-level math concepts.

Collaborates with classroom teachers to align intervention services with current classroom instruction, curriculum standards, and accommodations.

Develops and implements individualized intervention plans based on student needs, strengths, and areas of difficulty.

Maintains accurate records of student progress and communicates results and recommendations to parents, teachers, and administrators.

Participates in student support, intervention, and referral meetings as needed to assist in determining appropriate instructional services and accommodations.

Creates a positive, structured learning environment that promotes student confidence, perseverance, and mathematical problem-solving skills.

Supports and enforces school policies, procedures, and expectations while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the position.
