Job description
Use your skills to make a difference with visitors at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates -- one of the most-visited historic home sites in the country and a key historic and cultural landmark in southwest Florida. A National Register Historic Site open to the public since 1947, the site contains more than twenty acres of historic buildings and gardens, including the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, their botanical laboratory, and a 15,000-square-foot museum.
Job Summary
This is a full-time position responsible for varying duties to include but not limited to: staffing the entrance gate on McGregor Boulevard, directing traffic entering and leaving the parking area, providing security for the parking areas, grounds, historical homes, and museum, evening closing procedures, and being on call for alarms at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates.
Schedule/Hours
The Estates is open seven days a week all year with evening hours during the holidays and other special events throughout the year. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with benefits. This position is required to work 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and three daytime shifts. Will be required to work some holidays. Flexibility is critical to the success of our mission.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Manning the entrance gate in response to visitor and staff needs.
- Ensure safety of all persons and property with a focus on customer service.
- Patrolling Museum and grounds.
- Directing traffic in and out of parking lot.
- Security in parking lots.
- On-site security for special events.
- Closing of historic homes.
- Being on call for alarm emergencies.
- Prepare Incident Reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Previous security experience preferred. Class "D" license preferred but not required.
- Experience in dealing with the public, high level of oral communication skills, capacity to be aware of all safety hazards in the parking lot and at the crossing and familiarity with the city, county, and the Estates to answer questions of the public.
- Utilize a golf cart and two-way radio.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the public.
- Occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat.
- Occasionally exposed to exhaust fumes, noise.
- Extensive standing, walking, may require running.
