We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Operating Room Surgical Technician (Scrub Technician) to assist a seasoned, highly respected Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgeon in delivering exceptional surgical care.
This position is ideal for an experienced ophthalmic scrub technician who thrives in a fast-paced office-based surgery environment and is passionate about precision, teamwork, and outstanding patient outcomes. The successful candidate will play an integral role in a boutique physician-owned practice specializing in lens-based and anterior segment procedures, utilizing the latest surgical technologies and premium intraocular lens (IOL) platforms.
Responsibilities: Surgical Assistance
- Prepare and maintain a sterile operating field for ophthalmic surgery.
- Scrub and assist during cataract surgery, premium IOL implantation, refractive lens exchange, EVO ICL pterygium surgery, and other anterior segment surgeries.
- Anticipate the surgeon's needs and efficiently pass microsurgical instruments throughout procedures.
- Prepare ophthalmic surgical equipment, instrumentation, viscoelastics, intraocular lenses, medications, and disposable supplies.
- Operate and troubleshoot ophthalmic surgical equipment, including phacoemulsification systems, microscopes, and other anterior segment technologies.
- Verify surgical supplies, implants, and patient information according to established safety protocols.
- Maintain strict sterile technique and adhere to infection prevention standards.
Operating Room Support
- Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and transfer before and after surgery.
- Turn over operating rooms efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sterility.
- Perform instrument decontamination, inspection, assembly, and preparation for sterilization.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and organization of surgical instruments, implants, and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, safety regulations, and operating room policies.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with surgeons and surgical staff to ensure efficient operating room workflow.
- Contribute to a positive, patient-centered surgical experience through professionalism and teamwork.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing education related to ophthalmic surgery and surgical technology.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience preferred.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred.
- Previous ophthalmic operating room experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience assisting with cataract surgery and anterior segment procedures is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with premium intraocular lenses, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, and refractive procedures is a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room safety.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgical workflow.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
