We are seeking an experienced Acme-Gridley / Multispindle Department Supervisor to lead our multi-spindle automatic screw machine operations. This role is responsible for overseeing daily production on Acme-Gridley (and similar) multi-spindle machines, ensuring high-volume precision parts are produced efficiently, safely, and to exact quality standards. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of multi-spindle setups and tooling with proven leadership skills to drive productivity, minimize downtime, and develop the team.
Key Responsibilities

- Meet customer delivery requirements while maximizing machine utilization and minimizing scrap.
- Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot mechanical, tooling, and process issues, and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Enforce quality standards through in-process checks, first-article inspections, and adherence to blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications.
- Train, coach, and develop operators on safe machine operation, setup procedures, and continuous improvement techniques.
- Drive lean manufacturing initiatives, reduce cycle times, improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and implement process improvements.
- Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols, conducting toolbox talks, and ensuring proper use of PPE and machine guarding.
- Track key performance metrics (output, scrap rates, downtime, efficiency) and prepare daily/weekly production reports.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, planning, and maintenance departments to resolve issues and support new part introductions.
- Manage departmental inventory of tooling, collets, cams, and consumables; control costs and reduce waste.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience operating and/or setting up multi-spindle automatic screw machines (Acme-Gridley preferred; Davenport, New Britain, or similar acceptable).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read complex blueprints, process sheets, and tooling layouts.
- Proven ability to diagnose and correct machine, tooling, and process problems on multi-spindle equipment.
- Solid understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, feeds/speeds, and material properties (steel, aluminum, brass, etc.).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and occasionally work overtime or weekends as production demands.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical trade school or associate degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both conventional cam-operated and CNC multi-spindle machines.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement tools.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling software.
