Join our vibrant child care center as a Child Care Center Cook/Float, where your culinary expertise and flexible spirit will play a vital role in nourishing young minds and bodies. In this dynamic position, you will prepare nutritious, appealing meals tailored to children’s dietary needs while ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are met. As a float team member, you’ll also support various kitchen operations and assist with meal service, contributing to a warm, welcoming environment that promotes healthy growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of nutritious meals and snacks for children, adhering to approved menus and dietary guidelines
- Assist with menu planning to ensure balanced, appealing options that meet nutritional standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, grills, poaching devices, braising pots, and food production tools
- Follow strict food safety sanitizing procedures to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment
- Handle food preparation tasks such as chopping, mixing, grilling, braising, poaching, and food handling with precision and care
- Support high-volume food production during meal times while maintaining quality and presentation standards
- Assist in the training of staff on food safety management practices and recipe adherence to ensure compliance with health regulations
Requirements
- Previous dietary aide experience or food service experience in child care or restaurant settings is highly preferred
- Strong culinary skills including menu planning, food preparation, grilling, braising, poaching, and knife skills
- Knowledge of food safety protocols and sanitizing procedures essential for maintaining health standards
- Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively
- Ability to work efficiently in high-volume production environments while adhering to recipes and portion controls
- Excellent food handling skills with an understanding of dietary restrictions common in child care settings
- Previous catering or fine dining experience is a plus but not required; enthusiasm for learning new culinary techniques is valued
- Must be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment
