CONCRETE FINISHER
Classification: Non-Exempt/Seasonal
Compensation: Prevailing Wage or comparable; or Prevailing Wage plus $5.00/hour if ACI certified
Reports to: Superintendent
Work Location: Montana/North Dakota/Wyoming
Position Objective :
This is a highly skilled position involving various manual tasks (finishing, forming, stripping, tying rebar, foundation preparation, etc.) associated with the concrete construction.
Essential Functions:
- Finishes wet surfaces to grade on all types of concrete work requiring a fine finish.
- Uses tools such as float, trowel, screed, template, hand shovel, 10’-16’ straight edge on extended handle up to 15’ long.
- Operates concrete finishing machine
- The finisher must have knowledge of equipment/tools and their uses. The finisher is also responsible for the efficient working condition of the tools/equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance as needed and refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Thoroughly understand all requirements of the project you are paving—edge slump, vertical face, pavement thickness, offset, consolidation and surface appearance.
- Tasks include aligning and bracing portions of project assembly, using bubble leveler, boards, nails and hammer. Measures distances between columns using tape measure or laser sighting.
- Installs outside and inside form panels using physical strength or, if necessary, pneumatic hoist. Insert pins or wall ties through holes in concrete form panels to support, lift, and position panels.
- Removes obstructions in grooves with hammer and chisel. Patches holes, cracks, and joints in assembled sections using mortar and trowel or necessary tools.
- Fill forms or panels with wet concrete and then vibrate, screed, trowel, or prepare surface to ensure proper concrete settling and surfacing as necessary or as described in plan.
- Top off, screed or float the top of wall with necessary tools as required.
- Perform general labor duties when necessary.
Competencies:
- 2-5 years of experience required, ACI Certification preferred.
- Must have own hand tools and boots.
- Display an uncompromising focus on safety by properly following company policies and MSHA/DOT/DEQ regulations for safe working procedures and protection of the environment.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
- Be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must require minimal supervision.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
- Valid Driver’s License required, Commercial Driver’s License helpful.
- Completion of grade 12 or equivalent preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- At least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) in each eye with or without correction. At least 70 degrees peripheral in horizontal meridian measured in each eye.
- Must be able to perform with or without accommodations.
- Must be available to travel in Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming.
Work Demands & Environment:
- Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, and as needed, safety-toed boots, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment.
- Employee will be required to work in outdoor environments which may include exposure to extreme temperatures and weather.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, sit, shovel, sweep, rake, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms, possibly for extended periods.
- Requires occasional moving/lifting of up to 85 pounds during the course of the work day.
