Hassett & George is a full-service law firm with three Connecticut offices and approximately 35 employees. We provide a wide range of legal services, including litigation, business law, real estate, estate planning, and family law. This position is in our litigation department but does not require any legal experience.
Position Overview
If you enjoy keeping information organized, working with numbers, maintaining accurate records, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks, this may be the perfect opportunity for you. The Financial Assistant plays an important role in supporting the litigation attorneys in our Commercial Collections area by managing payment records, maintaining spreadsheets and databases, preparing financial reports, and coordinating the administrative processes that keep the department running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary financial support resource for the firm's Commercial Collections litigation team.
- Manage payment plans by tracking payment schedules, recording payments, and monitoring account status.
- Maintain detailed Excel spreadsheets to track client accounts, payment activity, department performance metrics, and other financial data.
- Maintain accurate records within the firm's collections software and ensure information is complete, current.
- Prepare weekly reports, including client disbursement reports, reimbursement reports, and other operational reports used to monitor department activity.
- Review account activity to identify discrepancies, missing information, or payment issues, and work proactively to resolve them.
- Coordinate the flow of financial information to clients to ensure matters move forward efficiently.
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding payment plans and account balances.
- Assist attorneys and staff by gathering financial information, researching account histories, and preparing documentation needed to support client matters.
- Ensure processes are completed accurately, consistently, and in accordance with firm procedures.
- Recommend improvements to administrative workflows and tracking systems that increase efficiency and accuracy within the department.

Position Details
- This is a part-time position (about 25 hours per week), in one of our Connecticut offices – Simsbury, Glastonbury, or Cheshire. Preferred schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:00-2:00 but we are flexible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone returning to the workforce or looking for a professional part-time position with flexibility.
Pay: $24.00 - $25.00 per hour
